The Yorkshire 3 peaks are the mountains of Whernside (736 m or 2,415 ft), Ingleborough (723 m or 2,372 ft) and Pen-y-ghent (694 m or 2,277 ft).

The Challenge:

The Yorkshire 3 Peaks challenge is a circular route that climbs all three mountians. It is normal to start in Horton-in-Ribblesdale although it is possible to start at other points on the route, provided that you complete the circuit and finish back at the start point.

The target time is generally said to be 12 hours, although with any timescale it is still a challenge to be reckoned with.

Most walkers complete the route in 10-13 hours. A few do it significantly faster while plenty take longer. As with any such excursion it is always possible that injury or other events will force someone to discontinue, but with adequate preparation this challenge is ‘do-able’ for most reasonably fit people. All would agree that completing the route, regardless of time, is an achievement of which to be proud.
